Te Ūaka recognises Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke as Mana Whenua and Mana Moana for Te Whakaraupō / Lyttelton Harbour.
At a recent event on 2 August at the Ōtoromiro Hotel in Governors Bay, Lyttelton Historical Museum Society members were proud to see two of their long-serving volunteers awarded Community Service Awards for their invaluable contributions.
Ann Jolliffe has been involved with the Society for many years; initially as a Community Board representative and then as an elected Committee member. Ann has made a great contribution to many Museum activities and has been a useful conduit for connections with other stakeholders. Ann’s positivity, good humour and energy are much appreciated by all who interact with her.
Kerry McCarthy was an exemplary president of the Museum Society until her passing in January 2021. She was an inspirational leader with a deep commitment to creating a new museum – Te Ūaka The Lyttelton Museum. Most recently, Kerry was instrumental in developing the six themes that will underpin displays in the proposed new museum:
Kerry is deeply missed by her Museum colleagues. Her award was accepted by her family, Maeve, Otto and Roy. Thank you for your service, Ann and Kerry.
